This French text set of classic literature by Rabelais (1495-1553) is famous for its bawdy, satirical nature. Pantagruel is a tale of comic chivalry, which satirizes lawyers, theologians, and academic buffoons, while Gargantua mocks rash generals, idiotic monarchs, and uncouth professors. It champions freedom, and laughs at a dirty young giant before he turns into a splendid prince. Some related ephemera has been laid in. This edition was printed in 1065 copies, and this is copy no. 676. Clean copies. Record # 33999
